Release Mates listens to its volunteers, they are our lifeblood. In late 2022, our female volunteers highlighted the need for our service within the female prison estate. Although considerably less populated than the male state, some thought that the services available to women is lacking. 

After delivering a talk to North-West prisons, we forged a relationship with HMP Styal. The prison is based near Wilmslow in the Cheshire countryside. Styal prison releases women to all over the northwest of England and North Wales. After consultation with the prison we are now able to offer our most comprehensive through the gate package to date. This includes meeting prison leavers at the gate, a full English breakfast to fuel the body for the busy day ahead, and a full escort service by car to day of release appointments, and finally home.
