Our team

Our team is made up of prison leavers in long-term recovery from addiction. Our past experiences of the criminal justice system give us a different perspective on the needs of those leaving prison today. Each member shares an unrivalled passion for helping people on release from custody.

David Dunn

Founder and CEO

Released from prison in 2022, David founded Release Mates after developing a desire to help others on a drug and alcohol recovery unit in custody.

David is responsible for the overall running of Release Mates including fundraising, governance, and strategy.

In his spare time, David is an avid golfer who enjoys making up lost time with his family.

Abby Harland
General Manager
Co-Founder Release Mates Women

When Abby began volunteering with Release Mates, her selflessness and passion for helping others shone through. Abby is that Release Mate who goes to any lengths to make sure the people she supports are looked after. Promoted to General Manager just 9 months after beginning as a volunteer, Abby is Co-Founder of Release Mates Women, using her lived experience of active addiction and the criminal justice system to guide others.
Away from work, Abby has rebuilt family ties, enjoys day trips out, and by her own admission LOVES shopping!

Donovan
Lead Volunteer

Donovan is bursting with passion for rehabilitation and recovery. After a difficult and lengthy period involved with the criminal justice system, Donovan now uses his lived experience to guide others on the path to pro-social living.

A keen gym goer, Donovan spends time rebuilding family ties and is very active in recovery fellowships.
